No inflated corporate story. We are a family business in a hill town in the province of Ancona, and we have done one thing for sixty years.
Sementi Conti was founded in Corinaldo in 19— and has done the same thing ever since: harvest, process and sell alfalfa and clover seed.
We are a sole proprietorship, family-run. We have no sales department, no agents abroad, no catalogue of two hundred items. We have a processing plant, a warehouse and the people who work in them.
We say so because it changes how we work together: the person who answers you is the person who handles the product, and replies come at the pace of a small company, not a call centre. In return, what we tell you about the seed has been checked.
Why the Marche region
Italy is Europe's leading alfalfa producer, and the central Adriatic belt is one of the historic areas for seed multiplication.
That is not local pride, it is agronomy. The dry summer of these hills is what alfalfa needs to be carried through to seed, and the seed that results performs well in dry Mediterranean and continental climates — which are precisely the export markets. Seed produced in a humid climate and sown in Algeria or Kazakhstan starts at a disadvantage.
